Carrier Screening Information

Where Can I Get Screened?

In July 2006, National Tay-Sachs & Allied Diseases Association entered into an affiliate agreement with the Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Free Screening is available for Tay-Sachs and Canavan diseases through our Gift of Life Program.*

To obtain a free screening certificate, please contact Rebecca at 215-887-0877 or email info@tay-sachs.org.

Certificates may be redeemed at:
The Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases
Albert Einstein Medical Center
5501 Old York Road
Philadelphia, PA
215-456-7875

Individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage have a 1 in 5 chance of being a carrier for several diseases in addition to Tay-Sachs and Canavan diseases. The Victor Center also offers screening for Gaucher, Niemann-Pick, Familial Dysautonomia, Bloom Syndrome, Fanconi anemia, Cystic Fibrosis and Mucolipdosis Type 4. Screening for these diseases is offered at a significantly reduced rate, and may be obtained when you redeem your free Tay-Sachs and Canavan screening certificate.

*The Gift of Life Program is supported by NTSAD-DV and funded in part by a grant from the Innovating Worthy Projects Foundation.
